The police are currently investigating an incident that occurred in the early hours of May 11, when an unattended bag containing an item with wires was found on Stirling Road in Queenstown.
According to a police statement in response to media inquiries, authorities were alerted to the bag at approximately 2.35am. Security checks conducted at the scene revealed that the item was a battery from a personal mobility device.
A video uploaded online captures the scene, showing an unattended bag placed in the middle of an empty road outside a church. The bag is unzipped, with wires protruding from it. An individual filming the footage noted in Mandarin, “It really looks like a bomb, but I don’t know what it is… In fact, it looks like a very ordinary schoolbag,” as she moves around the item and captures multiple angles.
The footage also shows several police officers arriving at the scene to inspect the bag. Authorities eventually set up a police tent around the item for examination.
Later in the recording, heavy rain begins to fall, causing water to pool around the bag and partially submerge it.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
