［八卦米篩］ 台灣民俗傳統結婚迎娶新娘時，女方會在頭上遮八卦米篩，這個習俗是台灣傳統婚禮文化中相當具代表性的儀式之一，源自閩南、客家等中華傳統文化。 傳統信仰中，新娘在結婚當日被視為喜氣最重的人之一，也因此容易引來「陰煞」或不乾淨之氣。為了替新娘「擋煞」、「轉運」，便會在她出嫁時，使用具有象徵驅邪力量的「八卦米篩」遮在其頭上。 米篩是竹編的圓形工具，上面會貼上紅紙、畫上八卦圖樣或貼紅字、紅紙花等，通常由新娘的長輩，通常是母親或嫂嫂，在新娘出門時，舉在新娘頭上，直到坐入車中後才由男方接手，這一動作不僅是形式上的遮蔽，更象徵著娘家對新娘的庇佑與祝福。 「八卦」源於中國古代易經的宇宙觀，象徵天、地、風、火、水、山等自然運行的原則，民間相信其具有鎮邪、化煞、調和陰陽的力量。而「米篩」則是台灣早期農家常見的工具，用以篩選米穀，亦有「過濾穢氣、篩掉不祥」的隱喻。將八卦與米篩結合，不僅展現出從前農村社會的生活智慧，也反映了信仰融合生活的民間文化特色。 [Bagua Rice Sieve] In traditional Taiwanese weddings, especially during the bridal escort ceremony, it is customary for the bride to have a Bagua rice sieve held above her head. This ritual, deeply rooted in Taiwanese wedding culture, originates from Minnan and Hakka traditions within Chinese heritage. According to traditional beliefs, the bride is considered one of the most auspicious and “joy-filled” individuals on the wedding day. However, such strong positive energy is also thought to attract negative forces or “yin evil.” To protect the bride from these harmful influences and to ensure good fortune, a rice sieve adorned with Bagua symbols is used to shield her as she departs from her parental home. The rice sieve, a round bamboo tool traditionally used in farming to sift grains, is often decorated with red paper, Bagua diagrams, auspicious Chinese characters, or red paper flowers. Typically, it is held by a senior female relative—such as the bride’s mother or sister-in-law—above the bride’s head until she enters the wedding car, at which point the groom’s family takes over. This act symbolizes not just physical protection but also the blessings and guardianship of the bride’s family. The “Bagua” comes from the ancient Chinese I Ching cosmology, representing natural elements like heaven, earth, wind, fire, water, and mountains. In folk belief, it possesses the power to dispel evil, neutralize negative forces, and balance yin and yang.
